A driver suffered major injuries after she rear-ended a school bus and crashed into a tree Monday morning on Highway 17 in Santa Cruz County.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KGO) -- A driver suffered major injuries after she rear-ended a school bus and crashed into a tree Monday morning on Highway 17 in Santa Cruz County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Two children on the bus had minor injuries after the crash, which was reported about 9:50 a.m. on southbound 17 near Scotts Valley.

However, the school district tells ABC7 News that no students were hurt in the crash.

A 67-year-old San Jose woman was driving a Mini Cooper at unknown speed when her car hit the Blue Bird bus and then veered off the road and hit a tree, the CHP said.

She was taken to Valley Medical Center with major injuries.

There were two adults and 24 children on the bus.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. It's not known if drugs or alcohol were a factor.

Hours later in the opposite direction of Highway 17 -- a big rig overturned.

The driver was put on a stretcher but suffered only minor injuries.

The CHP has not said what caused the big rig to flip on its side.
